Loopt

Do you ever have to go somewhere maybe you dont like and wish you had some company but never made the effort to call someone. But you later find out that they were only a couple of blocks away from where you were?Loopt might be your answer.

Loopt is an interactive software that runs on your mobile phone that allows you to share, connect and explore with your friends.

  • You can share your location with your friends and even send photos as well talk to your friends on AIM.
  • You can connect with your friends and get alerted when they are in your area.
  • Explore places and events that are recommend by your friends.

I think this service is very cool and I wish I could tell you that I tried it but they dont offer for Verizon yet. Still the service still seems very fun and interesting. I would very much use this service, I like that I would be able to know if my friend is nearby or a colleague, so that we can hang our or even talk about work.

My SL Experience

So a while back I posted about SL and how I signed up for the monthly subscription to be able purchase land. I found it was very difficult for a newbie like myself to build anything so I never did anything with the land that I bought. Just recently I was approached to sell my land. I would have never thought that someone would approach me to buy my land but it happened. I am so shocked that was approached, the process was very easy and the person who bought it was very nice. If I had some more cash I would invest in more land to see what happens. So for anyone that has not tried SL I really recommended for you to take a look.

CircleUp

CircleUp is a new way for you to stay organized with your friends, club members and other social gatherings.

Lets say you are running for President for your local high school and you want to know how many of your classmates will be voting for you. With CircleUp you can send your whole high school class a message like "Can I count on your vote for 2008?" The question will be easily answered by a click on your email or im. Now you will be able to see a detailed report on what they had to say.

I think this is a great tool to use to help you stay organized.

Vidmetrix.com

I stumbled across this site recently, vidmetrix.com. They offer a service for you to be able track how views your video has gotten on video sites. Whats cool is that you can even track videos that arent even yours just by typing in the url.

Here is a video that a friend of mine has posted

It shows the stats of your video like how many views you had before you added the url, what day had the most views, how many comments were left and if there are any blogs that are linking to it.

Cyber Monday 10% Increase From Last Year

NielsenRating is reporting that online retailers had a 10% increase in traffic from last year. Bringing their total unique visitors to 21.2 million from 19.2 million the year before. They also report that Consumer Electronics saw the most growth between 11/16 and 11/23 with a 235% increase, Computer Hardware/Software was in second place with 121% increase. Shopping Comparison/Portals also saw an increase of 95% (I would think nobrainerdeals.com would fall in this category as well).

I am glad to see that online retailers are continuing to get more and more sales. Many including myself have waited in long lines before a major brick and mortar has opened it is a much needed relief that I can shop from the comfort of my own house.

Pretty interesting report worth taking a look at.

Meetup a new way to Meet Up

Looking to meet up with people with similar interests but don't know where to look. Meetup.com is your place. They have tons of categories to choose from, you can even search by area.

Here are some of the Popular Topics that came up: Entrepreneur, Japanese Language and Culture, New In Town and Poker. Since I am in sales I think it is very useful for me to go to some of the Entrepreneur meetups so I can make some new contacts.

See if there is any groups that you might want to meetup with!

ThingFling.com

Another Woot like website. I blogged about Woot before and still believe that their service is superior but I do like that more companies are doing this business model. Selling one item till it sells out at below retail pricing. I think that Woot still sells better stuff but it is good to see that they sell different stuff, cause we are always looking for better deals.

Take a look

illumino.com

Now there are so much information out there from your favorite sources like Facebook, Myspace, RSS and your favorite blogs. How do you keep up? I would like to see say that Illumino.com is a great service and that it serves the purpose but I am sorry to say that it doesnt.

What they are trying to accomplish is great, a better way to interact with sites that you normally visit and spend time on. If you are like me, you always want to be update with the sites that you visit and would like a good way to get that information. However, having another application on your computer is not the solution. A web applet or web 2.0 start page might be a better option. Here are the reasons why I dont think this app is worth it.

  1. Having another app that takes up CPU power and wants to run in startup is just plain annoying. There is so many things that slow your computer down already and this would be just another thing
  2. You can join groups that you have similar interest in, at first this was a cool idea. However, who really has the time to spend on this app to get to know more people with your interests. You probably have groups that you are probably part of that you dont spend a lot of time with already.
  3. RSS feeds, you can load your favorite feeds but doesnt every web 2.0 site offer this already. Why do I need an app for this.
All in all I just dont think it is worth it to have another program that doesnt do much compared to Google desktop.

FeedM8.com

FeedM8.com makes it easy for your sites rss feed to be made into a mobile webpage. You can get your content as well as users can get other feeds from their favorite blogs or pages.

I have signed up for it for nobrainerdeals.com and here is the screenshot of what it would look like for your mobile.

Look at Feedm8 content is super easy.
There are a few ways to get started with FeedM8.

1) Go to feedm8.com on your phone's browser. Simply choose from the top picks under "CHK IT OUT" or type what you're looking for in "WRU L%KN 4?" (i.e. What are you looking for?)

2) Go to www.feedm8.com on your desktop PC. Choose one of the featured websites or enter your own. Enter your phone number when prompted and you will receive a FeedM8 link by SMS.

3) Add this button to your bookmarks
  • Internet Explorer: Right-click the button above, choose "Add to favorites."
  • Firefox: Drag the button above into your Bookmarks Toolbar
  • Opera: Right-click the button above, choose "Bookmark Link"
To send a website you're browsing to you mobile, click the "Send to My Mobile" shortcut you've just added.
  • If you are looking for nobrainerdeals.com feed on your phone type in http://www.feedm8.com/nobrainerdealstop10deals

Plus you can have the option of advertising with FeedM8 "

The best part of this if you get web on your phone you can access pretty much any feed at any time with no or little more than what you are paying per month with your wireless carrier.

    Take a look

    Compusa Web 2.0

Compusa has added some web 2.0 tools which I think are worth pointing out.

They have recently added the quick add buttons of Facebook, Digg and del.icio.us. This is the first that I can tell that any major company has added these buttons to their sites. I think it is a wonderful way for them to promote their products but also embrace the modern technology that is coming out. Since more and more people are using Facebook, Digg and del.icio.us to get their information I think it is a strong move for them.

    Lijit.com

Lijit.com is a new way for your users to search your blogs, rss and your social bookmarking sites. The setup is pretty easy, all you have to do is follow a couple of steps and you are all set.

At first I thought it was going to be another blog search app but I really like the fact that it will search my blog, rss feeds and also my social bookmarking sites. It really allows you to get the content that would be most relevant to what you blog about.

How big companies are changing their approach in SL

    A little from Reuters

The buzz around virtual worlds now is shifting from simply building a virtual headquarters to how companies can help employees work together or with customers more effectively.

Instead of declaring virtual worlds a failed experiment and pulling out, companies are rethinking their approach, much as they did on the Web a decade ago, when sites began evolving from little more than a few pages with brochure-style photos and information.

Some $200 million in investment has flowed to virtual world companies over the past year, and many of the three dozen or so efforts are focusing on corporate uses.

It is amazing how things are evolving so fast on SL

Virtual Tours in Second Life On The Rise

So I was reading this local article about how SL travelings are on the rise. At first I was thinking why would people be interested in traveling in SL. This article helped me understand why it so attractive to many people.

The article explains how may people enjoy being able to go and see different countries without the worries of a plane ticket, passport or bags. There are even virtual tour guides to take you around. Now if your worried about going to Japan, China, Netherlands or any other country, not to worry. There is a free translation program called Babbler. So I guess the main thing is why not travel to a place you never been before and see if you like it before you.

    ReviewMe.com

Whats better than advertising your products or services on websites that have similar content, to have that website write about you. That is the concept behind ReviewMe.com, to have people that have an audience talk about your site or service.

So I signed up to see what the price range would be to advertise on some of the these blogs. Since I am really into tech I wanted to see how much the price range would be. They ranged from $40 per article to $750 per article. Now of course the ones that are $750 gets a lot of traffic, anywhere from 100k a day to 250k a day.

I think this service is worth someone who might have a product that they wanted to sell or get the word around.

    Obopay.com

    Why use Obopay?

Use any mobile phone to get, send, or spend money. Text message, use your phone's Internet browser, or download Obopay onto your phone.

    Pay your friends
    Never carry cash again
Get money, spend it right away

A Paypal like service that works off your cell phone. Lets say you had a friend that works in NY and needs to buy you a brand new pair of Bathing Apes for you but has no cash. Now you can send him cash off your cell phone.

You are probably wondering how can you withdraw the money. What will happen is that you send the money from your phone to another mobile phone. If they dont have an account with Obopay they will have to open one, which is free of course. Then they can transfer the money to there bank account or get a prepaid MasterCard.

The catch is that there is a $.10 fee to send money but there is no fee to receive or withdraw money.

    Myspace vs Facebook

As social networking becomes more and more competitive you can see that Facebook is making strides to become the top social network.

    provided from atopsites.com

Why I think Facebook is becoming more and more popular is that they allow developers to make widgets on their platform. Here is a list of the most popular apps

Top Friends (which even my girlfriend has)
Save time and show your friends some love. Add a box of up to 32 of your BFFs to your profile. Now they are one click away, you don't have to search every time you want to go check up on them. Now the question is... who is in your top friends box?

Graffiti (I like very much since you get to draw on your friends Facebook)
Graffiti lets you draw on your friends' profiles.

    Compare People
People are different. That is a fact of life. Find out who stands where in various categories: cutest, sexiest, smartest and many more. Most importantly, find out where you fit in!

With more being added every day. I believe to make a social network that work and to strive you need to allow your users to add content, then allow developers to add more content which Facebook allows. Myspace is slow to allow developers to add their own content which I think will hurt them in the end.

    FaceBook Developers

    Listible.com

Listible combines tags, comments and voting to help you find the most relevant stuff. In a lot of ways it looks very similar to digg. Unlike digg who has gotten very big, Listible makes it very easy to find what you are looking for. If you are trying to find another site to help you find something that is more relevant to your search, Listible should be your choice.

How To Save Money on College Textbooks

Anybody can tell you who has gone to college that books arent cheap and selling them back is even worse. So two guys came up with an idea to make a network where college students share their textbooks.

Once you are signed up (you have to use an .edu email) you can search by ISBN, Title or Aurthor. So I decided to search for a book that my girlfriend needs for school ISBN 1845204867 which is a fashion book. Socialbib will try to find you a match, once they do they will send you an email. If you are wondering how you might be able to get your book they " ... highly recommend meeting on campus (during the day) to exchange books if at all possible. While we can't guarantee that the person you meet up with is going to be hot - there's a 26% chance that they will be."

Great service for anyone going to college.

    What is SLurl?

SLurl provides direct teleport links to locations in Second Life. If you have Second Life installed, clicking on the map link will automatically teleport you to that location in-world.

In addition to allowing customized control over mapping locations in Second Life, SLurl also provides a better experience for web users who don't have Second Life. New Ways of Making Money Banned in Second Life

Up to last month people in SL where easily able to find a game of poker, slots or other games. Now SL following US regulations has banned all gambling on there site. With the new ban many enteurperneurs are starting their own backdoor card rooms. Many of which are finding unique places to hold their games.

I am sure that it will be very hard to stop the gambling, but I am very curious to see what will happen in the near future. Like what would happen if the servers were running in a country that allowed gambling?

Lately a lot of people have been talking about Yelp. They are an online services that provides reviews on everything from good restaurant to excellent salons.

My girlfriend is the one that turned me on to this site, it seems like everywhere we go now is from yelp. The part that she likes the most is being able to see customer reviews, if a place has a good review she is more likely to go to that place. What I find very interesting is that she has not ever written a review herself but takes the reviews to heart.

And in an exclusive interview on CNBC, 17-year-old George Hotz revealed his motivation for unlocking the device: "It was fun."

When Apple introduced the iPhone in July, it made the device available only on AT&T's wireless service, prompting widespread complaints among consumers. Hotz was able to unlock the device so that he can use it on his family's T-Mobile service.

The Surface computer will allow you to have a tabletop computer, that can display pictures, show you directions and enhance your home experience.

    Woot.com

Wikipedia - " Woot is an Internet retailer based in the Dallas suburb of Carrollton, Texas. It was founded by electronics wholesaler Matt Rutledge and debuted on July 12, 2004[2]. Woot was one of the early pioneers of the "One deal a day" business model on the internet. Woot offers one discounted product each day on its web site, woot.com. The product is available for 24 hours; it "expires" at midnight (US Central time) and is replaced by a different product for the next day. For the first several months of operation, the site only offered a new item from Monday to Friday, with Friday's item carrying over until Monday at 12:00AM, or until all items were sold. In 2005, Woot began offering products 7 days a week.

Woot has a community of customers who share their opinions on the site’s forums. Products vary but tend to emphasize computer components and electronic gadgets.

Woot takes its name from the widely-used online interjection “w00t!”. Each product sold is referred to as the "woot.""

I have personally never bought anything from Woot but many of my friends rave about how good the pricing is and the ease of using the site.

iPhone Review - its been a couple of weeks lets see what people are saying

Here is a review from Cnet
They give it a high rankking of 8 out of 10

The good: The Apple iPhone has a stunning display, a sleek design, and an innovative multitouch user interface. Its Safari browser makes for a superb Web surfing experience, and it offers easy-to-use apps. As an iPod, it shines.

The bad: The Apple iPhone has variable call quality and lacks some basic features found in many cell phones, including stereo Bluetooth support and 3G compatibility. Integrated memory is stingy for an iPod, and you have to sync the iPhone to manage music content.

The bottom line: Despite some important missing features, a slow data network, and call quality that doesn't always deliver, the Apple iPhone sets a new benchmark for an integrated cell phone and MP3 player.

    Cnet review

Here is another review from BrightHand.com

The iPhone is an amazing smartphone. After all the hype it lived up to what it expected to be. It's a good phone, great Internet device, and great iPod. Some may hate all the hype this phone gets, but it is well deserved.

If you are thinking about getting an iPhone, get one. It's well worth the money. The iPhone also has the capabilities to run apps us users can make ourselves. The down side is we need to have our own web site/server to do so, but I expect to see a lot of different cool apps to start popping up soon.

    Pros

    • Touch Screen
    • Sleek / Sexy Device - Can Catch Anyone's Eye
    • iPhone Data Plan is Only $20 Extra a Month for Unlimited Data / 200 Text
    • Very Easy To Use
    • Built In Sensors That Make Using the iPhone Easier

    Cons

    • Can't Be Used as a Modem for a Laptop - Yet
    • Only Available Through AT&T Currently
    • Battery Isn't Replaceable
    • No Flash / Java - Yet
    • No GPS
They have very detailed review on iPhone for more read here

All in all the reviews on the iPhone seem pretty good for the first generation. I hope to report soon all the accessories that are coming out for it as well.

    Insipiring Story of Kevin Ham

In the latest issue of Business 2.0 they talk about Kevin Ham and h0w he owns the internet.

It is crazy to think that this guy owns thousands and thousands of domains which make him ton of money by just using Google's, Yahoo's or MSN's PPC programs.

    A great read.

Predictions of iPhone from Crunch Gear

I have come across this blog and it talks about some interesting points about the new iPhone. They believe that the iPhone will not work properly for a number of reasons. I will give you the short list here and what I think.

    1. Since the iPhone is very thin and the touch screen is made out of glass, they believe that many people will end up cracking the screen. They make a good point, I carry my phone in my back pocket and sometimes forget that its there. I can easily see myself cracking the screen, but do I think this is a good enough reason not to buy one, NO!
    2. Will the virtual keyboard hold up to daily use. If you ever had to message someone on your phone it is very easy to do with the 9 button keypad, will it be easy on this. I had a smartphone about a year ago that was all touch screen (I believe the Audiovox vx6600) and the problem with that is that every time I tried to message someone it took me forever! Also typing in web address was not an easy task either. For this reason I might not consider buying the iPhone.
    3. Battery life, they predict just like the video iPod that the battery life on this will be horrible. Since I only have an iPod Nano, I havent had the same problems. Now if I think back to my smartphone, battery life was horrible. Again this would be another reason why I might stay away.
2 out of 3 reason why I wouldn't buy a iPhone. However, I still think that if I was with AT&T I would buy one. I like the idea of having everything one button away and not have to carry to many other portable devices.

    SocialPoster.com

Here is a very interesting site that offers the ability to submit to over social sites, including digg, furl, reddit and many more.

I have been using it for the last couple of days to promote nobrainerdeals.com and have found it to work very easy. You just type in the info that you want to be broadcasted and once you log into each site the info is right there.

I would recommend it for anyone that has a blog or website and would like to get more readers of your precious content.

    Stumbleupon.com

This site is very cool. I recommend everyone to try using it for at least one day. You do have to download a toolbar for it but still worth it. After you download the toolbar you will choose some categories that suit your interest. After that you are ready to go, you hit the Stumbleupon button and you will be exploring new sites that you have probably never seen before. If you like the site you give it a thumbs up and if you dont you give it a thumbs down. Great for someone who is looking for new sites and has a couple of extra minutes per day.

Stumbleupon is also very good for advertisers as well, for a company like mine nobrainedeals.com it is very hard to find good leads and feedback. Stumbleupon offers both. They will deliver a new visitor to your site that is interested in your category for $.05 a visitor. You are able to see if the viewer likes your site by giving you a thumbs up or a thumbs down if they dont. I have found Stumbleupon very affordable and honest with the traffic that they have brought to my site and would recommend it to all.

    Stumbleupon.com

    RatePoint.com

Here is another rating site where you can share with others what you think of the site. Like most other rating sites it requires for you to download a tool bar so that you can rate sites that you come across. The only thing this site has going for it is the simple design and ability to see what other users are doing so freely.

    TRAFFIC 2007

If you have sometime to check out this event it sounds pretty interesting. Will be held in NY 6/19 - 6/22 or Miami Oct 8 - 10.

I blogged about this in the past but the conference focuses on domain names and importance they will have on the way you market your site from here on out. Pretty interesting stuff since domain name buying has become so big.

Here is a little bit from their site

Be among folks that have made millions on the net with little work and no staff. Learn how they targeted domain names with TRAFFIC that convert to sales. Come hear their stories. Each story a little different with the common thread of success and profitability. Listen to how they made millions while others were losing millions. Listen to how they saw something that was missed by billions of other folks with the same chance.

Collectively the core attendees control over 4 million domain names and over 10 million DAILY unique visitors.....TRAFFIC. Targeted TRAFFIC. DomainSponsor.com, Google, Yahoo! and Fabulous.com provide a way to filter that traffic and literally handle millions of requests per HOUR. Collectively we buy thousands of domains every day of the week. We come from practically every corner of the globe and varied business backgrounds. A small but immensely powerful and forward thinking business group that has finally been recognized for the power they wield and the knowledge they posses.

    Redirect Traffic

For years now people have been using redirect traffic. The concept is pretty easy, buy a new or old domain that will get traffic. Then redirect those users from the other domain to your domain.

For example for the longest time I had thought that Blockbuster video's homepage was blockbusteronline.com. If you go to blockbusteronline.com you will see that it redirects you to goldencasino.com

There are many companies out there that can offer you this service. I found used a couple to promote more traffic to my site but that is all that it did. I got a lot more traffic but not to many returning visitors or more sales.

Since I did not get a lot of returning visitors I am considering for our next marketing campaign to buy the domain names themselves. Since nowadays you can buy domains for $5 for the first year I dont see that I have much to loose. For example if you ever type Gooogle with three o's it still comes up. If we are creative enough we might be able to get a domain like blockbusteronline.com which brings them free visitors everyday for doing nothing.

    Hot or Not

I used to come to this site all the time a couple of years ago and haven't really looked at it since.

This site is run by two people out of their living room. It is pretty interesting and simple. When you go onto the site you simple rate person as hot or not. You choose between 1 (not hot) to 10 which is (hot).

They have added some new features
    1. You can chat with friends on how you are rating people
    2. There is section where you can "meet people" You are able to narrow your selection down by sexual preference, sex, age and location
Pretty fun site you have some time to kill at the office

Egnyte.com had a booth at the Web 2.0 conference. What they have to offer is ability to share files online to your friends/co-workers and to be able to access them from anywhere.

Here is a screen shot of how their system works.

What I like about their service is that you can have multiple offices and have the ability to share your work with others. Also being able to access your files anywhere is great. You can even upload your Outlook emails to it directly and even add tags for more search results.

I think this might be Google April Fools joke but could it really be for real? TiSP stands for Toilet Internet Service Provider, funny right. So I guess what happens is that you get some fiber optic cable that Google sends you, you then pipe this cable down your toliet into your pipes. It takes like 60 minutes for it to connect with the network and now you have free WiFi.

I think this is Google way of being funny for April Fools day. Read more here

Another company trying to compete with Skype. You can call any Gizmo Project, Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk, or Windows Live user. They also give you free voicemail and conference calling which Skype does not offer.

See if this is a better fit for you if you really need the voicemail and conference calling. I still think Skype is better but it doesnt hurt to have competition out there.

    Fleck.com

Pretty cool Web 2.0 concept it allows you to edit web pages with your comments and notes. You can also share with your friends or even copy to your own blog. The best is that you dont have to install any software.

    About Fleck.com from their website
Fleck.com wants to add a new layer of interactivity to the web. Fleck is inspired on a story written in 1945 by Vannevar Bush and an article titled 'We Are The Web' by Kevin Kelly.

Vannevar Bush predicted a machine called the Memex that would allow people to surf from one information page to another. Some people say that Hypertext and the World Wide Web are based on or at least inspired by the Memex.

Kevin KellyOne thing that the Memex had and the web doesn't is the ability to add new content to every page it contained. After reading the Wired article by Kevin Kelly we decided to try to add a new level to the web by adding new tools that would allow its users to add information rather than just consuming it.

Fleck allows you to interact with pages on the web just as if it were pages in a magazine. You can save your annotated page for yourself, send it to friends or colleagues or use it in your blog.

You can start using Fleck right now. It's free and what's best: you don't have to install anything on your computer. Try the search box at the top of this page or add Fleck to your browser with a Bookmarklet or Extention.

Fleck was founded by Boris Veldhuijzen van Zanten, Patrick de Laive and Arjen Schat and is privately funded.

    Swicki

I was very intrigued by their tag line and the fact that they got B funding for 5.5mil
A search engine that learns from your
    community's search behavior.
So I added a Swicki account to my blog in hopes of finding out what is so cool about this service. What is very interesting about this is that your community can add, delete and improve the results. It is very much like how Wikipedia is like with the ability to edit the results. For a community like mine who does not get a lot of traffic, I do not think that my Swicki will change much but for a large community this will allow users to get more of a targeted search results. Since the user in most part can relate a subject to the community better than probably most search engines. With SEO you can also make it so that your site will come up higher on a search result but with a community like this you will be able edit these results so that they are kept relative. Search engines have a very hard time with pictures since it cant read a picture, so that is why sites with lots of pictures dont get ranked as high. Since Swicki is a search engine that learns from the user it would be more likely to pickup on these sites than a regular search engine.

Virtual Worlds: Building Community and Innovation or Just Another Fad?

Today I was able to attend the "Virtual Worlds: Building Community and Innovation or Just Another Fad? " with speaker Cory Ondrejka, CFO, Linden Lab.

Some info about Cory Ondrejka from the speaker biography

As CTO of Linden Lab, Cory lead the developing "Second Life," Linden Lab;s award winning, user-created digital world. His team has created the revlutionary technologies required to enable collaborative, atomistic creation, including distributed physical simulation, 3D streaming, completely customizable avatars and real-time, in-world editors. He also spearheaded the decision to allow users to retain the IP rights to their creations and helped craft Linden's virtual real estate policy.

Prior to joining Linden Lab in November, 2000, Ondrejka served as Project Lead and Lead Programmer for Pacific Coast Power and Light. At PCP&L, he brought the "Road Rash" franchise to the Nintendo for the first time with "Road Rash 64" and built the core technology teams that completed multiple products for Nintendo and Sony consoles. Previous experience includes Lead Programmer for Acclaim Coin-Operated Entertainment's first internal coin-op title and work on Department of Defense electronic warfare software projects for Lockheed Sanders. While an officer in the United States Navy, he worked at the National Security Agency and graduated from the Navy Nuclear Power School. Ondrejka is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, where he was a Presidential "Thousand Points of Light" recipient and became the first person to earn Bachelors of Science degress in two technical majors: Weapons and Systems Engineering and Computer Science.
Cory spoke about what Second Life was, how it is affecting the communities and business and what we might be able to expect in the near future.

He explained how Second Life was first introduced, much of the community flocked to music. Just like in other technologies like the web, blogs and social networks music helps bring people together. Music is something that we all can relate to. All of the Second Life community is user based, any user at any time can create a virtual world that fits their needs. He went on explaining that blogs and websites are an one way conversation. Second Life allows people to be in conversation and interact in ways that they normally would do. When in Second Life users will be able to interact with buildings, people and any part of the environment. They find that the average age of their users are about 34 and more women than men. The users can range from 13 - 80, however the older you the more likely you would use Second Life again. Since Second Life is not a game but a community that based on what the community has to offer. There is a higher chance that the older you are the more you have experienced and thus be able to add more to the Second Life community.

He goes on to explain that there are some similarities to the early days of the web. When large companies first started creating a web page they would scan there catalog and say that they are done. With the belief that this will make consumers purchase from their site and not ever have to go to the Brick and Mortar store again. As time has showed this was not the case. You can see in Second Life that many large companies have started to develop buildings in Second Life but after they create it they just stop. As time will go on many companies will learn to utilize Second Life in ways that may be more beneficial to them. He went to explain that IBM for example currently has about 4000 users on Second Life. They only know what IBM has divulged to them but the thought behind what large companies are using Second Life for is collaboration. For a large company like IBM who has employees all over the world with all different background it is very hard for them to integrate all of them. By using Second Life they could be able to hold orientations with all new employees from across the globe in a centralized location. Even if this would only reduce travel costs by 1% for a large company like IBM this could potentially mean tons of cash. By still having this orientation in a virtual world, new employees would be able to use their key strengths of communication just like you would be able to in a cocktail party. Unlike websites and online trainings users would be able to interact with the instructors and fellow coworkers, which will help with the integration of the new employees. He also points out that a hotel was created which allowed users to interact with their hotel. They were able to find out by asking the users if they were able to find the front desk or what they thought about the hotel. This is tremendously helpful for them to know what the user thinks and the way that they will react with their environments.

Another space that he points out is Shockproof Island. Shockproof Island was created by users that have experienced strokes. The hardest part for a stroke victim is recovery, in most cases they need an activity that will help them with their motor skills and actively work their brains. Users created Shockproof Island so that victims would be able to play games that will help with their motor skills and interact with other stroke victims.

Many business have emerged from Second Life. He explains how a female person created a million dollar a year business from buying, selling and renting real estate in Second life from a $10 investment. The most popular business in Second Life is clothing. Clothing is highly competitive with trend cycles only lasting about 2 weeks. Second Life has a growing economy which currently has a GDP of about $60 million a year with about $7 million selling back against the dollar.
In the future the hope to make everything open source. They currently have the coding source open source since January and hope to make the servers open source as well. They are working on a localized voice which will allow you to communicate with users like you normally would. You would faintly hear other conversations depending on where you are and how close you are to them. They do not have any plans in the future right now for a phone version of Second Life.

All in all I believe that Second Life is an emerging technology that will have a huge impact in our society. What the impact will be only time will tell.

    Second Life - Owning Land

I have been researching how to own land in Second Life. I figured out that you will need to sign up for the premimum account for $10 a month. You than have to find land that you can buy and build on. Some place you can only rent.

After looking through tons of places I was able to find a land that I wanted to buy. The property I was able to get as 500 Linden and very small like 200 sqm. Figuring out what I can do with the land is very difficult. You have to work with these "Prims" which are basic shapes that you can use to make buildings. Since the land I got was very small I wanted to create a billboard that I would be able to advertise in Second Life. I have not been able to successfully build my billboard yet.

I also was able to purchase this program that allows you to make money in Second Life. What this program does, is that every time someone purchase this program you get 90% of the sale amount. The way you will be able to make money off this is by finding a good area where there is good foot traffic. I will see if I can make any money of this

    Second Life

I am sorry that I have not been able to post more blogs but I have been playing around with Second Life for about 10 hrs now. I find this virtual world very interesting. After you go through so lengthy training process you than can explore this new world.

My main objective was to find out how people have made this into an e-commerce venue. So far in the journey I see that you are able to advertise in the virtual world just like you see on streets and highways. You are able to sell clothing, land, and other products.

I am going to explore more to see how pricing works in Second Life. How do I advertise with someone? Can I sell more than just "things" in Second Life? Is there ways to link back to the real world?

    IMVU

    www.imvu.com

A new concept in messaging. This unique program offers the ability to create an avatar of you where you can change the appearance (clothes, accessories, mood) so that it matches you. Once you go through the tutorial you than are in a 3D virtual chat room where you can chat with other users. Unlike other messaging programs this program automatically puts someone in your room to chat with. I find it very difficult to have someone stay to chat though.

You start with 1000 credits where you can buy a variety of stuff like furniture, rooms, pets, stickers, modicons, UI skins, avatars, accesspass (for unrated stuff), avatar name ( you can register your name so that it doesn't say guest).

When you are chatting you can actually do activities like kicks, hugs, kiss and other gestures.

Here are some screen shots of my chat and room.

I hope to blog about this more in the future.

    Outterbox PC Cases

With all the terror threats lately it seems as though it is hard and harder
to fly with carry ons. When the London scare happened passengers were not
able to fly with their carry ons like laptops and other goodies (soap,
contact solution and so on). I believe there will be a need for laptop bags
that can work both as a carry on and check in just in case there is another
terror threat. These notebooks cases (
    http://www.otterbox.com/products/pc_cases/laptop_case/index.htm ) that can
be checked in or carried on will be a good invest for the expensive laptops
that we all seem to travel with.

WOW, I am so amazed that a P2P has gone Hollywood. I will be very curious to see in the coming months if they will be able to make a profit from their P2P users, who like getting stuff for free.

    Is Google creating GoogleWorlds

I have recently come across a blog that talks about how Google might be building a GoogleWorlds. GoogleWorlds would be similar to Second Life and Myspace, which I think will be pretty cool.

It goes on to talk to about how Google has recently purchased a company which does in game advertising. Which would become very useful for them so they can continue to earn their advertising dollars on everything they offer.

    Check out the article

    Official Google Blog
