ThingFling.com

Another Woot like website. I blogged about Woot before and still believe that their service is superior but I do like that more companies are doing this business model. Selling one item till it sells out at below retail pricing. I think that Woot still sells better stuff but it is good to see that they sell different stuff, cause we are always looking for better deals.

Take a look

illumino.com

Now there are so much information out there from your favorite sources like Facebook, Myspace, RSS and your favorite blogs. How do you keep up? I would like to see say that Illumino.com is a great service and that it serves the purpose but I am sorry to say that it doesnt.

What they are trying to accomplish is great, a better way to interact with sites that you normally visit and spend time on. If you are like me, you always want to be update with the sites that you visit and would like a good way to get that information. However, having another application on your computer is not the solution. A web applet or web 2.0 start page might be a better option. Here are the reasons why I dont think this app is worth it.

  1. Having another app that takes up CPU power and wants to run in startup is just plain annoying. There is so many things that slow your computer down already and this would be just another thing
  2. You can join groups that you have similar interest in, at first this was a cool idea. However, who really has the time to spend on this app to get to know more people with your interests. You probably have groups that you are probably part of that you dont spend a lot of time with already.
  3. RSS feeds, you can load your favorite feeds but doesnt every web 2.0 site offer this already. Why do I need an app for this.
All in all I just dont think it is worth it to have another program that doesnt do much compared to Google desktop.

    Compusa Web 2.0

Compusa has added some web 2.0 tools which I think are worth pointing out.

They have recently added the quick add buttons of Facebook, Digg and del.icio.us. This is the first that I can tell that any major company has added these buttons to their sites. I think it is a wonderful way for them to promote their products but also embrace the modern technology that is coming out. Since more and more people are using Facebook, Digg and del.icio.us to get their information I think it is a strong move for them.

    Lijit.com

Lijit.com is a new way for your users to search your blogs, rss and your social bookmarking sites. The setup is pretty easy, all you have to do is follow a couple of steps and you are all set.

At first I thought it was going to be another blog search app but I really like the fact that it will search my blog, rss feeds and also my social bookmarking sites. It really allows you to get the content that would be most relevant to what you blog about.

How big companies are changing their approach in SL

    A little from Reuters

The buzz around virtual worlds now is shifting from simply building a virtual headquarters to how companies can help employees work together or with customers more effectively.

Instead of declaring virtual worlds a failed experiment and pulling out, companies are rethinking their approach, much as they did on the Web a decade ago, when sites began evolving from little more than a few pages with brochure-style photos and information.

Some $200 million in investment has flowed to virtual world companies over the past year, and many of the three dozen or so efforts are focusing on corporate uses.

It is amazing how things are evolving so fast on SL

Zonbu.com is a new way to look at computers. There is no need of expensive hardware (you do still need a monitor), free software and its green.

    • PC-compatible ports for keyboard and mouse
    • 6 USB ports to plug-and-play all compatible USB accessories
    • Broadband ready: 10/100 Mbps Ethernet built-in or add-on wifi adapter available to purchase

Software: Surf. Shop. Burn music. Trade stocks. Write letters. Crop photos. Calculate profits. Watch videos. Talk to friends. Zonbu comes with all the software you need to work hard, and play harder. There's nothing to buy, configure or troubleshoot — the world-class OS and 20 open source applications come installed and ready to go. When the latest application upgrade is released we automatically and transparently install it, keeping you up-to-date without you lifting a finger.

For the $12.95 a month plan you get 25GB backup, unlimited internet support and -$150 discount off the hardware. For the $14.95 a month plan you get 50GB storage, everything else plus remote access. The $19.95 plan you get 100GB storage, plus everything above and overnight free hardware replacement with limited warranty.

Truphone Makes VoIP Call on the iPhone

It doesnt seem unreasonable to think that you will be able to make VoIP calls on your iPhone using the wifi but until now it wasnt. Truphone demostrated this at DEMO07 where they took two iPhones and using the just the wifi to talk between the two handsets.

This is not a commerical release but hopefully in the near future they will have it for all iPhone.
